Welcome to ‘Take 5 with…’, your chance to find out what it’s really like to work at NewDay. Each time, we’ll be talking to someone different within the business to get their candid thoughts on the culture, working environment & business in general. First up is Shelley, a Senior Digital Product Owner in our Marketing team, to lift the lid on all things NewDay.
How long have you worked for NewDay?
Almost 3 years now.
How would you describe what you do at NewDay in one sentence?
I work hard to make sure all our new own-brand credit card customers have digital experiences that exceed their expectations!
Tell us about your proudest achievement or your most memorable day at NewDay.
I only moved into the own-brands credit cards team in January 2018. Before this, I worked on building a completely new personal loans product. My most memorable day was early on in that project. I got all the stakeholders together in a room and covered all the walls with magic paper — we spent two days working through every single step of the customer experience and system interactions, writing and re-writing, until we collaboratively came up with an end-to-end map, ready to bring to life.
What does the NewDay Manifesto mean to you?
The NewDay manifesto empowers me to challenge any business decisions that don’t seem right for the customer. It means that I can give to customers what I would want for myself and feel proud of the work that I do.
The three best things about working at NewDay are…
- The fact everyone is working towards the same goal, so you don’t encounter conflict as a result of different departments having different agendas.
- How NewDay understand and accommodate working around family commitments. Most meetings are set-up for dial-in as standard so you never miss a thing.
- The buzz that’s created by the collaborative physical environment (well-used ‘talking’ spaces) and non-formal approach (no uncomfortable suits and ties / dresses and heels here, it’s all about the work you do and the way you work with people!)
What’s the most interesting / exciting meeting in your diary this week?
I’m running the second of two multi-functional workshops. About 30 people from across the business are giving up 2 hours over their lunch break to help me fully understand all the impacted areas for my next big set of digital deliverables. Some great ideas came out of the first session, so this week we’re looking at the more meaty wins for the business and customer.
Tell us about the social side of NewDay — what’s your favourite event been?
I’m a big fan of the summer parties. You can’t beat a glass of prosecco in the sunshine, and it’s nice that we don’t have to wait until Christmas. It’s like an extra party to say “thank you and keep going”, that isn’t “expected” in the same way that a Christmas do is.
If you could do another job at NewDay for one day, what would you choose and why?
I’d probably be the one who cleans up! I get to hang out in this cool building and get lots of pedometer “steps” in. It’d be sparkling!
