Today’s ‘Take 5 with…’ is with Daven Raithatha, a former graduate recruit who is now a Specialist, Decision Science in our Credit Risk team. Credit Risk is looking for its next generation of graduates to start in Sept 2018, so if you’re interested — make sure to apply now!

How long have you worked for NewDay?

18 months all up — I spent 12 months as a Graduate Collections Analyst, 3 months as a Specialist Collections Analyst, and am now 3 months into a Specialist, Decision Science role.

How would you describe what you do at NewDay in one sentence?

My current role requires a mixture of investigative analysis into current Scorecard Performance, as well as building new Credit Decisioning Models.

Tell us about your proudest achievement at NewDay.

10 months into my role at NewDay I was asked to build MI to monitor the performance of our external suppliers. Shortly after, I was asked to attend off-site Business Reviews to present my work and discuss performance to both internal members of SLT and senior members from our suppliers.

What does the NewDay Manifesto mean to you?

Spending the vast majority of my time at NewDay in Collections, I worked closely with our Operations team in Leeds. Being so close to customer-facing teams gives you amazing insight into the small portion of our customers who have fallen into financial difficulty.

With all the new Collections initiatives we have implemented, I really got to see the help and support we offer to our customers when things for them haven’t quite gone to plan. For m, this is where our Manifesto really shines. It shows how the Manifesto has filtered right down to the customer, and allows us as a company to really understand the issues our customers face and to support them through difficult times

The three best things about working at NewDay are…

The small teams you work in allow for more responsibility and hence a larger impact in your field

The business has a very supportive culture, there are no barriers of approachability between the most junior graduates and SLT — (Heads/Directors)

The opportunities and exposure you receive at NewDay is brilliant!

What’s the most interesting / exciting meeting in your diary this week?

It’s hard to choose just one so I’m going to break the rule and list 2!

  1. A training course to learning predictive modelling in Python with the Data Science Team
  2. Detailed Model Build walk through for the customer management Scorecard I am helping build

Tell us about the social side of NewDay — what’s your favourite event been?

The company has a lovely culture — our social committee frequently organises events from monthly Beer & Pizza Fridays to Pub Quizzes to Halloween themed parties — even showing the World Cup football matches or Wimbledon on a projector in our social area. However my favourite event to date has to be the team offsite last year where we had a day out of the office for a meal and bowling — of course it was completely in the name of fun and not competitive whatsoever……

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I used to co-run the Rock Climbing Society at university and was entered into several competitions

If you could do another job for one day, what would you choose and why?

I would love to be the CEO for a day — To get an insight into the overall workings of the company and the relationship between NewDay and our owners.
