When did you start at NewDay?
4th January 2016 (although I just started this current role on 3rd September 2018).
What were you doing before you came to NewDay?
I was working for one of NewDay’s suppliers (Acxiom). NewDay was my customer, and I was so impressed with how they worked in terms of their delivery focus that I jumped over the fence. So, in total, I’ve been working with NewDay for about 4 years.
How would you describe what you do at NewDay in one sentence?
I (with my team of program managers) make sure that the large-scale change projects we do get delivered with minimal issues. We ensure that linkages between these changes are understood and then amended if they will introduce too much risk to our business.
What was your first impression walking through the doors on your first day?
I have the enviable position of being able to have two impressions — both when I originally joined in 2016 and more recently after I moved teams. My impression of both times was that of a welcoming team. Everybody wants you to do well and to help the team continue to deliver in better ways.
What’s the best thing about working at NewDay?
The best thing about working at NewDay is the people. I continue to be amazed at how much dedication everyone has to do their best work and make a real difference. If we invest time and effort in our people, they will look after the business.
What would you say to someone considering a role at NewDay?
I’d say go for it! But do an appropriate amount of checking to ensure the company is right for you. Every company is different and therefore you need to be sure it is right for you before you make the plunge.
Tell us something you know now that you didn’t before starting at NewDay.
In my previous role in the Data Platform team, I have learned loads about cloud and big data technologies. At the Strata Data Conference this year, I learnt that the work they are doing is leading edge in the world. They truly are delivering us a scalable, performant data capability which will underpin our decision-making in future years.
