When did you start at NewDay?
In April, a lovely spring day — and I was so excited.
What were you doing before you came to NewDay?
I’d actually had some time off about 8 months. I had left one role and took some time out. But during that time I’d redecorated my house, went and visited some friends who had just moved to Spain and opened a bar, walked my dog a lot and then started looking for work. Good times.
How would you describe what you do at NewDay in one sentence?
Making people feel part of something; making sure they know what’s happening across the organisation and know how what they do connects to our company goals.
What was your first impression walking through the doors on your first day?
The first thing honestly was ‘wow’ what a cool space. And actually, it still amazes me how awesome our working environment is. Open enough to provide flexibility for large events, while maintaining areas for team working and collaboration and provision of spaces for when you need to focus on your own. I love it!
What’s the best thing about working at NewDay?
For me it’s two-fold firstly, my actual role — I get to work right across the organisation helping people communicate better. It’s part tactical and part strategic in nature which I absolutely love. Connected to that is the second prong, the people. I have to say, the people are fantastic here. Exceptionally, bright and driven — but they genuinely care about what they do and the future success of NewDay.
What would you say to someone considering a role at NewDay?
Apply! NewDay is growing which means that there’s lots to do. We need people who are willing to get their hands, hearts and minds stuck in to help deliver. There are so many exciting projects and developments underway that are truly mind-boggling from a technology viewpoint, but equally, we’re investing in our people and constantly learning how we can make NewDay the best place to work it can be.
Tell us something you know now that you didn’t before starting at NewDay.
I never knew how big we really were. We have over 1,000 people but we have over 5 million customers that rely on us across all our brands, that’s amazing I think.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I’ve entered my first Ironman. I’m not sure if it’s a brave thing to do or just plain stupid. Either way, come June next year I’ll either be an Ironman or in a heap on the road somewhere in France.
